Alan Minthorn is the Saco City Councilor representing Ward 5 since he was elected back in 2015 over an 11-term councilor.
His priorities have been and continue to be reducing the tax burden, developing a smart growth strategy, and investing in our school system.
In his time at City Hall, Alan has fought to create an open, accessible, and accountable government with a strong focus on fiscal responsibility and a new approach to tackling issues the city faces.
He has been a Saco resident since 2003, when he and his family decided they needed a family oriented community with great schools, local shopping, close proximity to airports and beaches, and a strong healthcare business environment for career opportunities.
Alan's life experience includes almost four decades in: classroom teaching including becoming vice president of the local teachers union; high tech sales and consulting; Past-President of a Rotary club; and 22 years in the insurance industry.
MembershipsHe is currently a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Senior Insurance Marketing Association, the Biddeford-Saco Chamber of Commerce, and is on the advisory board for the Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement.
EducationHe earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Science Education from the University of South Florida College of Education in 1979.

They built their home at their current residence on Buckthorn Circle off Shadagee Road. His son, Sen. Justin Chenette, attended Saco schools including Thornton Academy.
Small Business OwnerHe owns and operates Maine Senior Insurance, LLC - a small health insurance agency in Saco specializing in assisting senior and disabled populations throughout Maine.
As a small business owner he understands the challenges the business community faces and the need for economic growth and lower property taxes. He assists future retirees navigate Social Security, Medicare, and MaineCare by teaching adult education classes. |
Campaign Treasurer
For three election cycles, Alan has been the Treasurer and worked in various capabilities for Justin Chenette’s successful campaign for Saco's State Representative and subsequently his successful bid for the Senate seat.
